The Florin Buddhist Women’s Association is part of the Northern California District Buddhist Women’s Association and the BCA Federation of Buddhist Women’s Associations (FBWA) — a global network of Buddhist women united in practice and service.
In March 1918, a small group of Issei women became an independent organization under the official banner of the Florin Buddhist Church. The Fujinkai was formally organized in March 1919 to render support after the completion of church construction. Tsuru Miyamoto served as the first Fujinkai President.
The Fujinkai continued until World War II. Upon returning from internment camps, the women reorganized and have continued without pause as the Florin BWA — over 100 years of quiet, essential service to our temple and community.
Our mission is to promote the teachings of Jodo Shinshu as taught by Shinran Shonin. As one of the integral parts of the temple, the BWA promotes the betterment and support of the Buddhist Churches of America, the Federation of BWA, our temple, our members, and our community.

Throughout the year, the BWA holds special memorial services honoring the women responsible for the formation and continuance of the association, including services for Lady Eshinni, Lady Kakushinni, and Lady Takeko Kujo.
