Caring for our grounds — serving our Sangha with dedication and love
The LOTUS FAM Club maintains the beautiful Heisei Garden and the church and parsonage grounds — a labor of love that keeps our temple serene, welcoming, and beautiful for all who visit.
Originally, the ladies volunteered to prepare lunch and help organize and maintain the facility interior. Today, they are part of the outdoor grounds crew as well — pruning around the church grounds, managing the vegetable garden, and continuing to support lunch preparation.
The Heisei Garden is a serene Japanese-style garden that forms the heart of BCF’s exterior grounds. Maintained by LOTUS FAM Club members through countless volunteer hours, the garden reflects the Buddhist values of care, gratitude, and attention to the world around us.
Visiting the garden — quiet, carefully tended, alive in all seasons — is a reminder that practice does not end at the altar. The work of tending living things is itself a form of devotion.

What began as an interior support role has grown into a full stewardship of BCF’s grounds. Generation after generation of LOTUS FAM Club members have shaped the green, living face of our temple — one season at a time.
In Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, every act of genuine service is an expression of gratitude for the Dharma. The work of the LOTUS FAM Club — tending gardens, preparing meals, caring for our shared home — is a living embodiment of that spirit.
